Is this my LAST POST MORTEM? Nope - I'm making a whole new blog of them :)
Does the BUTTERDOME PROVIDE??? Find out!!
A good show overall, but very emotional trip back east.
My third year at this craft show! I got display power, and apparently my booth is "heaven"!
So…I did a thing. This year, 2019, is a major self-development year for me. I have invested and reflected
Good show, many questions, and industry thoughts.
A whirlwind trip to Saskatoon and a dissertation on the sales mindset.
Montreal! So, so hot with the July weather, but still a lot of fun!
I finally return to Winnipeg once more as a guest at FanQuest!
With the successful reception of my post-mortems, it’s clear that a LOT of other creatives are interested in how I go about my business. Here's the first of hopefully many monthly progress reports.
Ottawa Comiccon is a strong sales convention, especially for books. Third year is the decision point as to whether I go back!
A successful weekend, even with the bizarre blizzard and the "down" year. Also, a new book! And many life updates!
In which I share some advice about doing trade shows, craft fairs, and conventions!
A GREAT turnout from Moncton! Plus, a year-end wrap-up of my performance and things to improve.
This show broke all previous sales records. Also, I plan and execute a successful 10x10 display!
A strong fourth year at Edmonton Expo.
Saskatoon showed up in a big way this year! Also, I stayed in a cool house.
My biggest show of the year, done! But was it worth it? This is the first of three shows I’m doing with my group of friends!
Animethon - oh you know, just another day at the office...
First time to Montreal! Tasty food, good friends, but also thieves.
My last of 3 shows in 30 days, complete! First show in Toronto, second-ever anime show, and an unexpected neighbour experience.
I’ve never been busier. A really good year in Ottawa - also, new kitty friends :)
It’s nice to celebrate the end of the long winter with one of my biggest shows of the year!
This is my first show of 2018. It’s supposed to be spring, but no, it’s still winter here in Calgary. Also, the Emerald Cloth IS HERE!
I was lucky enough to get into the show and I’m happy to report that I ended the year on the high note - best sales of the year!
In which the crowd disappears once it gets dark, I make some new friends, and where I make the decision that I can only eat ramen now.
I never know how I'm going to fare at C4. But this will be my last year doing it, that's for sure.
A big name for a small event - I present to you my experience in Drumheller, Alberta.
Where did September go? I don’t think I’ve been busier than I have this past month. This is my third Edmonton Expo, and I’m pleased to report it went well for me!
From the tone I’ve struck here, you might think that this is not a good festival. You’re wrong. It’s perfectly fine...but after five years of doing the same thing over and over, I see through the cracks and I’m left feeling bitter.
It was a slow day. But I had my best friend to keep me company! Also there was a pet pig????
If you would have asked me a few years ago if I’d try outdoor farmers markets to sell my books, I would have said no way. Learn why I started - and how I did! Part 1 of 5.
This was my first anime convention and a risk for me - also, new displays and how to respond to "I have no money!"
How I turned my WORST NIGHTMARE into a roaring success.
Two down, one to go. Why did I think doing three cons in a row was a good idea? Oh yes. Good for business is why. Regina did okay by me, but I see where I can make improvements.
Phew. First con of the year, done! I had ridiculously high expectations for this convention. I thought that by changing my location, I’d be doubling my sales.
My first Christmas market! Everyone wanted to buy or at least look at books by a fellow Maritimer.
Year Four at Hal-Con - First time as a GUEST! YAY!
You can’t promote and promote and then just coast. There is no coasting. There is only the next thing. C4 Winnipeg 2016!
It has been a busy week! First Saskatoon Expo, now Edmonton, with barely enough time in between to do my client work.
First time in Saskatoon, did well at the Saskatoon Expo! Next year hopefully I’ll be comfortable enough to make the drive and then I can have my full display.
I've spent the past week recovering, and writing this post-mortem. It's long. Some of you won't like it.
My post-mortem of Vul-Con! In which I talk about my driving anxiety, Star Trek celebrities, and the WEIRDEST interaction I've had yet.
This was my first extended stay in Red Deer for the first-ever Red Deer Comic Expo!
There's nothing like being around your creative peers. A summary of my time in Winnipeg!
This is the biggest con of the year, and I made the most out of it! It was a strong start to 2016.
For me, the last ten percent of a project isn't just the hardest--it's an insurmountable wall.
I posted this on an old blog of mine, and the text document I copied this from is dated December 16, 2007 -- eight years ago! I think it's hilarious, and in the spirit of the season.
Creating a new website for FaeryInkPress.com has been on my to-do list for a while. With each incarnation, I improve. Faery Ink Press has had several looks over the years...
So, this Hal-Con was GREAT. I had a lot of fun this year, I sold lots, and everything is good.
Back from yet another con. Didn't I just write one of these? It's that time of year where all the cons are happening at once. If only this book were a time book and then I could be everywhere at once.
Different hotel. Better dealer's room. More opportunities.
Usually I come back from a convention rejuvenated or filled with creative energy, and although I have some of that, I'm mostly just filled with the overwhelming anxious sense of duty.
With every con I learn something new. Often lots of things. I always come back rejuvenated. It's not easy to keep the same level of discipline about a creative work, but going to conventions really makes me feel like what I'm doing matters.
A question I get a lot when I'm selling my books is, "How long have you been a writer?"
And here it is!!! Drumroll... I CAN'T STOP LOOKING AT IT. Ah, this has gotta be my new fav cover.
Since crowdfunding for the Silver Spear will begin on September 13, 2014, it's only appropriate that The Violet Fox has

I've been in the publishing business longer than two years. Really I've been preparing for a lot of my adult life to publish my own books.
Just finished a fun but exhausting weekend at Hal-Con in Halifax. Here's the low-down.
You'd think that because comics are half writing that this would mean people at comic cons would be interested in buying books. This is not the case.
I promised everyone I'd have a big announcement on The Violet Fox's birthday. So here it is. First of all,
When Words Collide in Calgary was my second convention I attended as Faery Ink Press, and I feel like I improved on my table presentation from last time, as well as learned some new things!
This month at Faery Ink Press I've tried to be more conscious about my online marketing efforts. Ever since I announced my publishing schedule for next year, I've been hyper sensitive to what really needs to get done.

Did I completely forget that I promised everyone a scavenger hunt? Maaaybe! But never fear, it's here now, short and sweet!
Here it is: the 2014 Publishing Schedule for Faery Ink Press!! The first two books have pretty strict deadlines. The third is like a bonus--if I'm not dead, then I'm going to do my best to publish on time.
Keycon 30 wasn't my first convention ever, but it was my first convention attending as Faery Ink Press. It was
